WHO’s Guidance For Gen AI and Med-LLMs

The World Health Organization has released guidance for the use of large language models and artificial intelligence in healthcare.
The guidance proposes more than 40 recommendations for governments, technology companies and healthcare providers to ensure responsible use of large language models and AI.
It outlines five applications for large language model use in health:
Diagnosis and clinical care, including addressing written patient queries.
Patient-guided utilization, for investigating symptoms and treatment.
Clerical and administrative responsibilities, such as documenting and summarizing patient visits in EHRs.
Medical and nursing education, involving simulated patient encounters for trainees.
Scientific research and drug development, utilizing large language models to identify new compounds.

Unlocking EHR Workflow Analysis

Preventing clinician burnout by increasing EHR efficiency is easier than reducing burnout after it has peaked, according to a KLAS Arch Collaborative report.
To take EHR efficiency at its peak, it’s essential to have an optimized EHR workflow. Optimized EHR workflow means having the right data at the right moment so that the person doing a task or step can move the process forward to completion.
In the EHR workflow analysis, also called process analysis, the goal is to identify, prioritize, and organize the tasks needed to accomplish the desired outcome of a clinical process.
Pivotal steps of EHR workflow analysis include:
Organizing a multidisciplinary team
Reaching out to an EHR developer
Evaluating EHR workflow outcome
Mapping current workflow
Collecting vital data
Analyzing the data
Making changes to improve EHR workflow

What is FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources)
FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) is a standard that was created by the HL7. It determines how health information can be exchanged between systems, thus improving interoperability within healthcare systems.
FHIR also ensures that all healthcare data is accessible and available over a secure network.
Here’s a checklist to implement FHIR:
Include FHIR Restful API
Ensure interoperability
Choose a suitable FHIR version
